Calipari-to-Kentucky a Done Deal? (He's a Goner)

Pete Thamel of the New York Times sums it up: "Kentucky basketball is the unintentional comedy king of college sports. It’s a haven for neurotic fans, questionable administrators and TV personalities with 40-yard sprint times that would make Pete Carroll drool."

Has Kentucky Found Its Man in Calipari?

Memphis' John Calipari could be meeting with Kentucky officials as early as Monday about becoming the next Wildcat coach, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

After the Tigers were bounced from the NCAA tournament on Thursday, Calipari told reporters that Memphis was "where I want to coach."

He spent the weekend visiting his daughter, Erin, at the University of Massachusetts, where she is a senior, and according to the newspaper, "shut off most communication with the media and even his coaching staff."

As of Sunday night, Kentucky officials had not contacted Memphis asking permission to speak to Calipari.

Billy Gillespie Is Run Out of Lexington

Kentucky's Billy Gillespie tried the old I'm-not-talking-to-anybody-but-I-have-my-cell-phone-to-an-ear trick Friday when confronted by reporters after being fired, but basketball is big news in Lexington and members of the electronic media were determined to get a comment from the former coach. Mark Hebert of WHAS and Alan Cutler of WLEX led the charge as Gillespie tried to run from the horde.

Where does Kentucky turn? Florida's Billy Donovan said no to the Wildcats, and Memphis' John Calipari and Villanova's Jay Wright indicated they are not interested.
