Jim Boylen's second season at Utah is not off to a flying start. His team lost Saturday afternoon to something called Southwest Baptist, 80-79, at the Huntsman Center.
The Bearcats are a Division II outfit from someplace in Missouri. We're too lazy to look it up. Besides, the story here is Boylen's unit.
Mike Sorensen of the Deseret News writes: "It was arguably the worst Utah home loss since a Ute team led by Tom Chambers and Danny Vranes was upset by a lower-division school called Midwestern to open the 1979-80 season."
Southwest Baptist won despite some serious home cooking from the refs. Utah went to the line 38 times to only 13 for the Bearcats. But Southwest had its prayers answered by making 16 three-point baskets.
great job on the hoops site, wiz - upsets like this, from opening tip all the way thru the tourney, are why college hoops are becoming the real "america's game"...
