Check out this bizarre finish to a high school game in Sacramento that ends with a Rio Americano player at the line, shooting 18 free throws and his team trailing by 11.
The events started with 12.3 seconds left and Bella Vista leading by five. There is a flagrant foul on a Rio Hondo player that sends players and coaches from both teams onto the court. The referees huddle and award Bella Vista eight free throws. Players from that team make six, giving Bella Vista an 11-point lead.
Then Zach Nathanson of Rio Americano steps to the line, having been awarded 18 free throws. He makes 17 and his team wins by six.
On Thursday, a Capital Athletic League appeals committee said the officials misapplied the rules and reversed the result, awarding a 56-51 victory to Bella Vista, the score at the point of the flagrant foul.
