It's one thing to shoot at Ducks when they're out of season. It's another to shoot at Ducks in a Eugene city park when they're out of season.
Oregon freshmen Josh Crittle, left, Michael Dunigan, center, and Teondre Williams are due in Eugene Municipal Court on Friday to answer charges that they shot at Ducks in Alton Baker Park on March 30.
The players were suspended earlier this week by Duck coach Ernie Kent.
"The consequences of their actions needed to be dealt with. ... I think it is paramount that our players understand the significance of caring for animals, and how important that is to our community," Kent said. "The coach in me hopes that we will never have a situation like this again. The parent in me hopes our players have learned a valuable lesson."
Update: The players pleaded guilty to violating park rules — a charge reduced from a misdemeanor—and got 30 hours (each) community service. Plus a column from George Schroeder of the Eugene Register-Guard.
