The numbers are in and it's not good news for CBS. The three Final Four games combined for an average 9.0 rating, the lowest average rating for a Final Four since an 8.9 in 2003.
The ratings are off 4% from last year's Final Four, which averaged 9.4.
Only one of the three games — Michigan State vs. Connecticut — saw a slight uptick in ratings. It drew a 7.8/17, up 8% from a 7.2 for last year's Memphis-UCLA game.
The site Sports Media Watch has compiled ratings for the past 10 years. It puts the Final Four numbers in perspective, noting that "the 2008 NBA Finals averaged a 9.3 and January's Bowl Championship Series averaged a 10.2. The 9.0 does finish ahead of the 8.4 rating for the 2008 World Series."
