Utah State had its way with Fresno State on Monday night in Logan. The Aggies scored the first 22 points and built a 64-21 lead with 9:05 to play. That's when the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run, cutting the deficit to 33.
Utah State's Stew Morrill decided enough was enough. He put his starters back in the game, and that didn't go over with Fresno State's Steve Cleveland.
"One of the real disappointments to me — especially considering the history Stew and I have competing against each other and the great rivalry we have — he was playing his second group which I appreciated. But to reinsert the starters when you're up 33 with 5:43 to go was something I just don't understand," Cleveland said.
The Aggies held on for a 76-39 victory.
Cleveland did his best to slow Utah State at the start, calling timeouts after the Aggies had leads of 8-0 and 17-0.
"They have like 100 damn plays," Fresno State's Sylvester Seay said. "We can only go through so many of them. ... It's like taking a test and guessing what things the teacher's going to put on the test. You go out there and the teacher puts the opposite of what you studied. It's nobody's fault. It's just tough."
Morrill explained himself to the Logan Herald Journal...

Sounds like Morrill bet the overs and wanted to make sure the Aggies covered.
