Following the 351 Division I teams through five-plus months is nearly impossible, but that's the job of Las Vegas bookmakers, who constantly adjust power ratings in order to set the lines.
"We're going to open the season with a bang. It's certainly going to be a challenge not only for the bookmakers, but for handicappers, as well," Las Vegas Hilton sportsbook director Jay Kornegay told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
"I feel like we're all playing from the same tee in the beginning. I'm sure there are some weak spots or some value spots out there. But it's up to the bettors to try to find those."
Kornegay believes Louisville is the best team starting the season. The defending national champion Cardinals return three starters, including senior guard Russ Smith.
But odds posted by the Hilton tell a different story. Kentucky is a 7-2 favorite to win the title, followed by Louisville and Duke at 6-1 and Kansas at 7-1.
