A Trip to Indiana's Assembly Hall

It was senior night at Indiana, but a Wisconsin junior stole the show. The Badgers' Jordan Taylor scored 39 points and No. 10 Wisconsin pulled away for a 77-67 victory at Assembly Hall.

Celebrating the Firing of Bobby Knight

College basketball will never be the same. It was 10 years ago today that Bobby Knight was fired by Indiana. Kent Harvey, the student at the center of the controversy that led to Knight's firing, said the incident has no residual bearing on his life aside from providing fodder for family ribbing.

"When my father-in-law introduces me to his friends or colleagues, sometimes he'll introduce me as the guy who got Bob Knight fired just to embarrass the heck out of me," Harvey said. "It's all in jest."

What Became of Neil Reed?

Neil Reed started 72 games and averaged just under 10 points a game for Indiana from 1994-97, but he decided to transfer to Southern Mississippi before the start of his senior season. Not much was made of Reid's decision simply because players regularly transferred out of Indiana, where dictatorial Bob Knight was holding court.

But in 2000, cable network CNN/Sports Illustrated aired a tape of an encounter between Reed and Knight. The grainy practice video showed Knight grabbing Reed by the neck, although the coach has maintained he merely put his hand on Reed's chest.

It was the beginning of the end for Knight at Indiana, who was fired later that year by university president Myles Brand.

But while Knight was able to rehabilitate his reputation (later coaching at Texas Tech and then joining ESPN), Reed has bounced around after earning his undergraduate degree in Sports Administration from Southern Mississippi. He interned at ESPN Magazine, got a Masters degree from Chapman and a teaching credential.

The proud tradition of Indiana basketball is being put to the test. The Hoosiers are 5-7 and coming off consecutive home losses to Northeastern and Lipscomb. Not moments of pride for a program whose five national titles are behind only UCLA's 11 and Kentucky's seven.
