How Rumeal Robinson Lost It All

Rumeal Robinson will forever have a place in college basketball lore. His Michigan Wolverines trailed Seton Hall by one point with three seconds left in the 1989 NCAA championship game, and Robinson was at the free throw line, shooting two.

He made them both, securing the championship for the Wolverines.

Twenty years and a lucrative NBA career later, Robinson is a bankrupted "strip club addict," according to his adoptive brother, Donald Barrows.

Federal prosecutors have charged Robinson with fraud, and at least four creditors have sued him for unpaid bills in Miami-Dade County, where he lives.

He has given up Ducati motorcycles, a Maserati, and a $10,000 fully automatic M16 machine gun, among other things. He bounces between Biscayne Boulevard budget motels, claiming to have "no money" or possessions besides a change of pants, according to a deposition he gave last year.

Ann Arbor Never Looked So Good

What a long, strange trip it has been.

Michigan squeaked past hapless Indiana, 72-66 in overtime, on Wednesday night in Bloomington, then the real headache began.

The Wolverines' charter plane had a mechanical problem and the team had to take a bus. The bus wasn't prepared for the 300-plus-mile trip to Ann Arbor and had to stop in Indianapolis for fuel and a driver change.

Michigan Is Becoming a Basketball School

Michigan fans normally don't start thinking basketball until January — long after the bowl games. This season is different after the football team's 3-9 season.

The Wolverines (6-2), who lost to Duke, 71-56, last month, surprised the No. 4 Blue Devils, 81-73, on Saturday at Crisler Arena and could be headed to their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1998.

Duke (8-1) finished seven of 33 from three-point range and had its streak of 31 consecutive victories against unranked nonconference opponents come to an end.
