Excellent piece by Chris Dufresne of the Los Angeles Times, who breaks down Tim Floyd's decision to turn down an offer from Arizona to stay at USC.

Floyd, of course, was looking like he was going to pull a Nick Saban this week, telling his players at the season-ending team banquet that they should remain loyal to USC and stick around another year.

The next day, Floyd was on a private jet bound for Tucson to interview for the Wildcat opening.

Dufresne writes: "OK, so what now? Do we beat on Floyd for being a liar? Bulletin: He's a coach.

"A coach's dream job is only his dream job until a better dream job opens up or someone opens the vault."

Floyd Appears to Be Packing Bags for Tucson

USC's Tim Floyd arrived in Tucson aboard a private jet Wednesday afternoon and interviewed for the opening at Pacific 10 Conference rival Arizona. The Los Angeles Times reported that Floyd was offered the job and Phoenix radio station KTAR reported that he had agreed to become the Wildcats' coach.

Why would Floyd, 55, leave? Check out this quote from USC athletic director Mike Garrett: "If people don't want to be here they can go somewhere else. And if Tim has decided that, I thought he was a great coach and we've just got to find another great coach."

Translated, that means, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Arizona State Gets All the Calls

USC's Tim Floyd does his best Pat Knight imitation after a charging call was made in Sunday night's game against Arizona State, won by the Sun Devils, 65-53. Afterward, Floyd asked President Obama to give him the right to say what he really thought of the call without repercussion from the Pacific 10 Conference.

"We don't have freedom of speech as coaches. We cannot discuss those things. . . . Maybe Obama will change that rule, where we can talk."

Arizona State also benefited from a favorable call in Thursday night's victory over UCLA.
