It could be the best $10 investment ever made.
The Wall Street Journal reports that someone is holding a $10 futures ticket on Virginia Commonwealth winning it all. The ticket was purchased at the Las Vegas Hilton early in the season at 5,000-1 odds, meaning that if the Rams win the NCAA title, the bettor would pocket $50,000.
"I've never seen it before," said Jay Kornegay, director of the Hilton's sportsbook. "We take a lot of these bets over the year — they just never pan out. It's like a lottery ticket."
If VCU beats Butler in the semifinals, the holder of the ticket could then hedge his bet by putting a wager on the Rams' opponent in the title game. That would ensure cashing a ticket on the title game regardless of the outcome.
